Q8Aviation delivers the first sustainable fuel to Gatwick Airport

Q8Aviation has delivered the first supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to London Gatwick Airport. This important milestone marks the first use of SAF by any flight departing from Gatwick.

easyJet, a major customer of Q8Aviation, will use the SAF on 42 flights, including all those operating from London Gatwick to Glasgow during the COP26 Climate Change Conference, which runs from 31 October to 12 November. This is the first usage of SAF by any easyJet service from the UK.

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is produced from 100% renewable and sustainable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Blended with Jet A-1 fuel at a depot upstream of Gatwick Airport, it has been delivered by Q8Aviation to the main storage tanks at Gatwick Airport for supply to easyJet aircraft via the airport’s hydrant system.

Naser Ben Butain, General Manager Q8Aviation said: “We are pleased to play our part in supplying the first sustainable aviation fuel to easyJet at Gatwick. We are thankful for the strong support from our partners – Gatwick Airport Ltd, easyJet and Neste – on this project, which supports the industry’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fuel.”
