Q8Aviation’s Mark Welch triumphs at Rally of the Midlands

Q8Aviation’s Mark Welch has achieved his best ever win in Mark II Motorsport, seizing victory in the Trinity Motors Hyundai Rally of the Midlands on 19/20 June. This was round four of the prestigious 2009 BTRDA Ashphalt Rally Series, which Mark is contesting for the second year running with sponsorship from Q8Aviation. Last year Mark, who is Q8Aviation’s Account Manager for UK/Ireland and North America, was runner-up in the competition. This year, he is hoping to go one place better.

The latest victory was fiercely contested. Seeded third in a 90-strong field, the Ford Escort Cosworth driven by Mark and his co-driver Andy Wynn edged into the lead on stage 12 of the 19-stage rally. In the final three stages, Mark held a ten-second lead from Chris Wood in an Opel Astra F2000 kit car to emerge as winner after nearly a hundred miles of competition.

The result gave the team the maximum number of BTRDA Championship points, raising them to third place in the Championship.  Three rounds remain before the winner is decided at the final rally on 25th October.
